It has been great to see Ocean Sports full to the brim with old and new friends this past few weeks. The Easter Weekend was a definite highlight and as always we had lots on to keep everyone entertained. The weather was perfect, the sea crystal clear and the beach as beautiful as it always is in March.
On the Saturday we had our annual Easter Family Fishing Competition at Mida Creek. It’s a great, social event that kids and adults alike look forward to. This year we had one of our best turnouts, almost 30 children fishing in 6 boats! They managed to catch snappers, kolekole and barracuda! well done to Joey, Eric and Josh on ‘Castle Light’ for coming in first place. And although they hate to be named, we owe a massive thank you to Geoff and Sue Bell for sponsoring this really fun competition every year. They always provide amazing prizes and the use of their pontoon on the creek makes the whole day great fun for everyone. Click here for more pictures.
As well as the Fishing Competition the kids also enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt around the pool on Sunday. All in all we can safely say that the kids of Watamu got their fair share of chocolate over Easter, even if it was a little melted!
But it wasn’t all lounging around eating chocolate, we had a squash tournament on our newly renovated court with players from all over Kenya. We hope to host more of these this year, so keep in touch to find out about the next one.
Skydive Kenya joined us once again which was as fun as always, it’s great to have a drink on the deck and watch them floating down and landing on the beach in front of you; or for the brave, to actually do the jumping!
On Easter Monday we did a Hash Run organised by Aqua Ventures in the Sokoke Forest. It’s the perfect place for running with tones of trails winding through lovely, indigenous bush and big trees. Some of the runners even spotted an elephant shrew. We’ll be doing more of these runs this year so get in touch if you would like to take part.
Thank you to everyone who dropped by over Easter, we are still busy and will remain open throughout the low season, so if you fancy a beach break then you know who to call!
